Fossils

FOSSILS is a site-specific performance that takes place in an old house situated on the fringes of the Nairobi National Park. It frames the performance as a house tour through an explorers lens with the performers taking up the roles of god, life, the wind & architect.
Karuti re-introduces us to her wooden structure featured in some of her drawings where it recurs frequently in rooms & obscure landscapes. This Kentridge-esque migration of images across mediums & their instability creates the space for the artist to perform her uncertainty. The audience is also invited to participate in a set of repetitive rituals during the performance. The performers interact with the structure at intervals & also with other objects in & around the house while observing particular features that mirror & respond to the landscape.
