Dak’Art Biennale 2018

Dak’Art Biennale, 2018

Dakar, Senegal 🇸🇳

Dates: 03 May-02 June 2018

Excited to be showing an installation of The Planets-chapter32 at the 13th edition of La Biennale de l’Art africain contemporain, Dak’Art, otherwise known as the Dak’Art Biennale. Dak’Art, specifically devoted to Contemporary African Art is the most significant art biennale in the continent. With Simon Njami as the Artistic director, this years theme is The Red Hour. The Red Hour is an expression borrowed from Aimé Césaire in his play “and the dogs went silent” that talks about emancipation, freedom and responsibility. The Red Hour is a coming of age. A moment when one emancipates oneself from what has been, by transforming it and giving it a new strength. It is the hour of metamorphosis and transformation. The international exhibition is titled A New Humanity. It borrows from Fanon’s idea of ‘a new man’. ‘How does a colonized person overcome the pathology of lies built inside them in such a way as to lead to the invention of ‘a new man’?
